Choose My Adventure: The Elder Scrolls Online

Elder Scrolls Online

The Elder Scrolls Online has launched into its early access period, and I couldn’t be more excited for the timing on this new edition of Choose My Adventure. I’ve always been a huge fan of the Elder Scrolls series, but I didn’t have access to this MMO beta for various reasons. As I stated in my last column, I even avoided reading impressions articles here at Massively because I wanted this to be a fresh experience for me. I’m kinda weird like that.

But I’ve purchased the game now and have been enjoying myself this week during early access. Of course, I’m still saving the good stuff for this column, and I don’t plan to release my impressions until a future article, but I’ll reiterate that I’m very excited about this next month.

The Elder Scrolls Online has had a bit of a rough start as the hype train built steam the last year or so, but that’s usually the way these things go with news of any major IP going massively multiplayer. A fantasy MMO with a subscription? That’s so 2005! But Bethesda stuck by the game’s value and resisted the now accepted free-to-play norm.

The relatively smooth early access head start launch has already proven that the ZeniMax team is up to the challenge of not breaking the game in the first five minutes, as often happens with these launches. OK, so a few quests don’t exactly work as intended, but at least we can walk around and play with our friends, which is more than we can say for most launches. Have we finally solved that MMO launch day mystery? Will ESO prove the naysayers wrong? Well, we still have actual launch day on Friday, so we’ll see.

But in the meantime, I plan to use this next month in ESO to show off the game through the eyes of a character you build for me. We’ll make this fun and unique and more than just a general impressions thing.

So this week you will choose my character’s gender, race, alliance, and class. I may have polls in future articles where you will pick my tradeskill focus and skill progression, but this will be a good start.

It is important to note, as you get ready to vote, that I pre-ordered the game (allowing me access to allrace/alliance combos) but did not dish out for the Imperial Edition. So that explains the absence of the Imperials from the race poll.

CMA Elder Scrolls: Alliance?

CMA Elder Scrolls: Race?

CMA Elder Scrolls: Class?

Your votes will be compiled until Sunday at 7 p.m. EDT, at which time I’ll be livestreaming the creation of the character you chose. So be sure to tune in to our Twitch channel at that time and watch your creation be unveiled!
